eBay is also taking the possession of the eBay.in domain from Flipkart, which had shut down the platform earlier this month.

ETtech.com Technology NewsLatest Technology NewsInternet eBay chalks out India comeback plan with export business for Indian sellers eBay is also taking the possession of the eBay.in domain from Flipkart, which had shut down the platform earlier this month. Vikas SN | ETtech | August 23, 2018, 00:30 IST VIEW IN APP eBay chalks out India comeback plan with export business for Indian sellerseBay, which ended its strategic partnership with Flipkart following the Walmart deal, is coming back to the Indian market by starting its export business for Indian sellers to sell across its major markets. eBay is also taking over the eBay.in domain from Flipkart, a company spokesperson has confirmed to ETtech. "We are immediately focused on the cross-border trade opportunity and encourage India-based sellers to continue to take advantage of eBay's global platform and sell to customers around the world," a company spokesperson said. Flipkart had acquired eBay.in last year when it raised $1.4 billion in funding from eBay, Tencent and Microsoft. eBay had at the time invested $500 million in Flipkart and is exiting with gross proceeds of around $1.1 billion. The Walmart-owned e-tailer had shut down the eBay.in platform earlier this month and had stated plans to set up its own platform for refurbished goods, which was unveiled as ' 2GUD' yesterday. eBay India had a base of 4 million buyers at the time of the announcement of the Flipkart merger. "In India, we will start with export meaning Indian sellers selling on other marketplace platforms around the world that was something that we turned over to Flipkart. We are going to get that back upon the closing of the transaction. So, we will light up the Indian seller base to sell across all of our major markets," eBay CEO Devin Wenig said in the company's earnings call earlier this month.

Google Doodle celebrates Sir Don Bradman's 110th birth anniversary

HIGHLIGHTS Google marked the 110th birth anniversary of Sir Don Bradman by dedicating a doodle to the Australian With a Test batting average of 99.94

Bradman is considered as the greatest ever to have played the gentleman's game. The stamp of greatness, which in any case is hard to earn, is perhaps harder in the digital age. If Google has not dedicated a doodle, you still have some distance to travel to be regarded as the one of the greatest of all time.

Considering cricket is yet to attain the status of global sport, not many from the gentleman’s game have forced their way to a Google doodle. But there are exceptions. Indian cricket’s Renaissance man Dilip Sardesai was one of them and today it was the turn of the greatest ever to have played the game – Sir Donald George Bradman - to get the honours.

Nvidia rolls out new chip technology for filmmakers

Nvidia rolled out its newest generation of chip technology, called Turing after the legendary British computer scientist Alan Turing.

Nvidia has released a new generation of chips aimed at helping expand its business among movie makers and other graphics professionals.

At a gathering of graphics professionals on Monday, Nvidia rolled out its newest generation of chip technology, called Turing after the legendary British computer scientist Alan Turing.

The biggest selling point of the chips is an improvement in so-called "ray tracing," or the ability for the chip to simulate how light rays will bounce around in a visual scene.

That task takes so much computing power that designers have to wait while a chip churns through the data to see the results of their work. Nvidia says the new generation of chips will let designers make those changes in real time, which could speed up the creative process - and which Nvidia hopes customers will pay a premium for.

Remove Duplicates in Excel

Larger data sets tend to have duplicate content. You may have a list of multiple contacts in a company and only want to see the number of companies you have. In situations like this, removing the duplicates comes in quite handy.

To remove your duplicates, highlight the row or column that you want to remove duplicates of. Then, go to the Data tab, and select "Remove Duplicates" (under Tools). A pop-up will appear to confirm which data you want to work with. Select "Remove Duplicates," and you're good to go.

Excel Super Tip

Apply restriction on your input using Data Validation!

Suppose you are running a survey on a group of people aged between 30 to 40. To maintain their records you surely want some restriction on their age inputs. First their age should be a whole number and second it must be between 30 to 40.

Excel has a data validation function to impose such restrictions on your input. Let see how to do it:

Step #1: Select “Data” tab and choose “Validation”.

Step #2: In the validation window under Settings section select Allow as “whole number” and fill other details as per your requirement.

Step #3: Next shift to “Input message” and type your error message here.

Amazon's real rival in India isn't Walmart

It’s time the Amazon boss took notice of his real rival in India, the only billion-strong consumer market open to Western tech firms.

It’s time the Amazon boss took notice of his real rival in India, the only billion-strong consumer market open to Western tech firms. While Walmart's acquisition this year of Flipkart, a homegrown e-tailer, might have given the impression that the battle for India would be an all-American contest, a new national e-commerce policydoing the rounds in New Delhi should disabuse Bezos of that notion.

If the draft policy becomes law, the oil-to-telecom tycoon who’s India’s richest man will emerge as the most formidable challenger to the wealthiest person on the planet.

The core contest comes down to warehouses. Foreign-funded firms aren’t allowed to hold e-commerce inventory in India. That’s a disadvantage for Amazon, since it prevents the firm from fully capitalizing on the strengths of its vaunted logistics operation, seen as one of its most decisive edges in the U.S.

Amazon was hoping that those rules would be loosened, but the proposed policy instead calls for harsh controls on even the phantom sellers that Amazon and Flipkart have been using to get around the no-inventory problem. If the new policy is strictly implemented, Amazon, and its preferred resellers, won’t be able to offer deep discounts.

Meanwhile, Indian-managed companies like Ambani’s Reliance Retail will be free to control and improve their supply chains while building a fearsome online presence in partnership with his mobile operator, Reliance Jio Infocomm.

Amazon's real rival in India isn't Walmart

That’s not the only onerous aspect of the policy. The draft speaks of a two-year period after which data generated in India – on social media (Facebook), via search engines (Alphabet’s Google), or e-commerce (Amazon) – will have to be stored on local servers. As the Wall Street Journal noted this week, the move is bound to push up costs for Western firms.

This new restriction will probably make it to the final law. The Indian central bank is already directing all payment firms like Visa, Mastercard and PayPal to keep their Indian data exclusively in the country by October, so there’s little reason to expect that rules for e-commerce data will be much less stringent.

Besides, similar laws already exist in China. Amazon sold its Chinese servers and some other cloud assets to a local partner to comply with Beijing’s local storage rules. Alphabet, which has no data centers in China, is also looking for a local partner to bring its Google Drive and Google Docs to that country, Bloomberg News reported recently.

Other aspects of the policy may die without Bezos needing to move a muscle. Indian privacy activists will balk at the idea of a “social credit database,” to be set up — in a very Chinese fashion — by mixing state and non-state citizen data. While the goal of the database is to promote digital lending, there’s no guarantee it won’t be used to stifle dissent.

A more problematic suggestion in the draft is that the Indian government would have access to the data stored in India, “subject to rules related to privacy, consent etc.” A proposed Indian data-privacy law is yet to be passed by parliament, and whatever makes it onto the books will in turn be shaped by the Indian apex court’s verdict in a case challenging the constitutional validity of a biometric identification system that the government has rolled out to 1.2 billion Indians.

Detractors argue that the biometric database is unsafe, a threat to privacy, and a tool for digital exclusion because the failure rate of authentications is too high. For business, however, the stakes in the central data repository are significant.

Fast customer acquisition made possible by the unique ID database helped Jio sign up 215 million users in just 22 months for its low-priced 4G telecom service. The draft e-commerce rules now promise a single “know your customer” data portal, akin to Singapore’s MyInfo. This move could help Jio’s payments bank acquire customer deposits cheaply.

A report in FactorDaily, an Indian tech news website, gives a detailed account of how executives from Jio and Reliance Industries, the group flagship, helped shape the “India First” doctrine of the new e-commerce rules.

The Reliance boss owes it to his shareholders to try to make the most of his home-field advantage. The only way his big telecom investments – already amounting to $36 billion, and counting – will make sense is if Jio can succeed in locking in India’s consumers with a triple play of carriage, content and commerce. Of those three, carriage may drive ubiquity of Reliance’s services and content will bring a sticky audience – but only commerce will make real money.

India is pegged to be a $1 trillion digital economy by 2025, and Bezos, Ambani, and the Bansal and Walton families backing Walmart-Flipkart all want a piece of the action. Judging by this first round of regulatory skirmish, it’s the Reliance boss that Bezos needs to worry about most.

Introducing Excel VBA Learning Series - Beyond Advanced Excel {Hindi}

The six best programming languages to learn right now Which languages are most popular among developers due to their high demand, and how to get started learning them.

To shed light on this question, developer hubs such as Stack Overflow and GitHub release data on the most popular languages on their platforms.

Below are the programming languages that have topped the biggest developer surveys / round-ups in 2018.

. JavaScript

What is it used for? While JavaScript originated as a web-scripting language, today it is used on everything from node.js backend servers to internet of things devices via Node-RED. That said, most jobs asking for JavaScript are web-related.

Historically, JavaScript had a chequered reputation, due to unpredictable behavior and its idiosyncratic approach. However, more recent releases of the language have addressed some of these concerns and derivatives such as TypeScript allow developers build larger and more complex programs.

Typical jobs: Web developer, full-stack developer, front-end developer.

2. Java

What is it used for? Java is the workhorse of modern enterprise, having been the language of choice for writing server-side business software for more than decade. Beyond business, Java is also an official language used for developing Android apps, and is also used for games and web apps.

Its ubiquitous nature means that Java developers continue to remain in high demand. While Java is now on release 10, the most commonly used version remains Java 8.

Typical jobs: Software engineers, software architects and DevOps engineers.

3. Python

What is it used for? The current machine-learning boom has fuelled a sharp uptick in the number of developers learning Python. Outside of the language's use in big-data analytics, Python's versatility is evident in its range of uses, from web and desktop apps to orchestrating system operations.

Python code is relatively easy to read and understand, supports multiple programming paradigms, has a wide range of software libraries that can be dropped into code, and can be scaled to large applications.

Jacqueline Kazil, board director of the Python Software Foundation (PSF), predicted Python's popularity will continue to grow, alongside demand for machine learning, due to the language's accessibility and usefulness.

Typical jobs: Data engineer, full-stack developers, software engineers.

. PHP

What is it used for? A longstanding and oft-criticized language, widely used across the web to help serve web pages and apps.

Despite garnering harsh criticism for shortcomings in its design, PHP has survived for decades, and still underpins popular CMS systems such as WordPress, as well as still being used by major sites such as Google and Facebook. Like Java, PHP's widespread nature means demand for developers is unlikely to go away.

Typical jobs: Web developer, WordPress PHP developer

5. C#

What is it used for? Microsoft's object-oriented language has the benefit of being well-documented, relatively easy to learn, with a lot of useful software libraries to avoid developers reinventing the wheel.

The language, created in 2000 as a rival to Java, runs on Microsoft's .NET framework and is popular for building Windows desktop applications, as well as web and, more recently, mobile apps. Its uses continue to grow as Xamarin tools enable C# to be used to write apps for Android, iOS and other mobile devices.

Typical jobs: Full-stack developer, .NET developer, web developer.

6. C++

What is it used for? C++ is a favorite for games and complex business applications, largely due to being able to run extremely efficiently and offering precise control over memory use.

Its ability to squeeze the best performance from systems means it's a popular choice for software running on microcontroller boards, as well as for low-level software on PCs, such as operating systems and hardware drivers. The downside is that C++ can be difficult to learn due to the complexity of the language.

Typical jobs: Embedded engineer, games engine software engineer, system software developer.

Google tracks your location, even when you tell it not to do so

Google services on Android devices and iPhones store your location data even if you've used a privacy setting that says it will prevent Google from doing so

Google wants to know where you go so badly that it records your movements even when you explicitly tell it not to. An Associated Press investigation found that many Google services on Android devices and iPhones store your location data even if you’ve used a privacy setting that says it will prevent Google from doing so.
Computer-science researchers at Princeton confirmed these findings at the AP‘s request.
For the most part, Google is upfront about asking permission to use your location information. An app like Google Maps will remind you to allow access to location if you use it for navigating. If you agree to let it record your location over time, Google Maps will display that history for you in a “timeline” that maps out your daily movements.
Storing your minute-by-minute travels carries privacy risks and has been used by police to determine the location of suspects — such as a warrant that police in Raleigh, North Carolina, served on Google last year to find devices near a murder scene. So the company lets you “pause” a setting called Location History.
Google says that will prevent the company from remembering where you’ve been. Google’s support page on the subject states: “You can turn off Location History at any time. With Location History off, the places you go are no longer stored.”
That isn’t true. Even with Location History paused, some Google apps automatically store time-stamped location data without asking. (It’s possible, although laborious, to delete it .)
For example, Google stores a snapshot of where you are when you merely open its Maps app. Automatic daily weather updates on Android phones pinpoint roughly where you are. And some searches that have nothing to do with location, like “chocolate chip cookies,” or “kids science kits,” pinpoint your precise latitude and longitude — accurate to the square foot — and save it to your Google account.
“There are a number of different ways that Google may use location to improve people’s experience, including: Location History, Web and App Activity, and through device-level Location Services,” a Google spokesperson said in a statement to the AP. “We provide clear descriptions of these tools, and robust controls so people can turn them on or off, and delete their histories at any time.”

145 Google Play apps found to be hiding Windows malware

Google recently removed 145 apps from the official Google Play app store because they were discovered to be harboring malicious Windows malware files.

According to security researchers from Palo Alto Networks, the majority of the infected apps were released on Google Play between October 2017 and November 2017.

This means that the apps have been available in Google Play for more than six months. At the point of their removal, some of the infected apps have more than 1,000 installs and even 4-star ratings!

The most interesting part about this whole affair is that Android gadgets are actually safe from these infected apps. Yep, if you've downloaded and installed any of these Android apps, your phone or tablet is actually immune from the embedded malware.

However, if you've transferred and unpacked the app to a Windows PC, then your machine is vulnerable to attacks.

Pen Drive/Thumb Drive

Thumb drives used to be so cool. They came in every shape and material, from little plastic rectangles to rubber wristbands, novelty animals, and pens sporting a built-in USB-drive. We used to marvel at the data they contained, easily dragged and dropped into a special icon. They were simple and portable, and yes, about the size of a human thumb.

Those days are over. Cloud technology has made USB drives redundant and worse, a liability since they could easily get lost. Most of them have vanished into junk drawers, exiled with old cellphones and various chargers, forgotten.

Today's Google Doodle

What is the meaning of today's Google Doodle?

Google Doodle is a special, temporary alteration of the logo on Google's homepages that commemorate holidays, events, achievements, and people. ... Initially, Doodles were neither animated nor hyperlinked—they were simply images with hover text describing the subject or expressing a holiday greeting.

Google today is celebrating 78th birthday of Indian cricketer Dilip Sardesai with a doodle. Often regarded as India's best batsman against spin bowling, Mr Sardesai made his first mark in cricket in the inter-university Rohinton Baria Trophy in 1959-60 where he made 435 runs at an average of 87. Google Doodle pays homage to the legend today.
Indian cricketer Dilip Sardesai: Google Doodle is celebrating his birthday today with a tribute
Dilip Sardesai made his first-class cricket debut for Indian Universities against the touring Pakistan team at Pune in 1960-61, scoring 87 in 194 minutes. Mr Sardesai's immediate success led to his selection for the Board president's XI against the same team at Bangalore, where he scored 106, and then as a standby in the final match of the Test series. He scored 202 against Madras University at about the same time, and was then selected to represent Bombay in the Ranji Trophy. Dilip Sardesai was one of the five Indian Cricket Cricketers of the Year in 1960-61.
Dilip Sardesai died on 2 July 2007, after he was admitted to Bombay Hospital on 23 June following a chest infection.
